97 GSX Differential Problem

I found a 97 GSX for sale for about 4500 obo. The problem is the differential failed about 2 years ago and one rear half shaft slipped out. I am not sure if this is a terrible problem and worth buying this car. What would the cost of having this fixed be? And, is it ok to drive with this problem?
