snowthisismylife 12-15-2008, 11:27 AM I have a 1998 legacy outback and I don’t know if I should chain the front back or all 4 any help thanks 297Kncountin' 01-18-2009, 11:31 AM dpends on i guess how much snow. i lived in pa and never had any problems with 4 good matching radials. course, i liked michelins best, xones, and then hydroedge. aside from snow too deep to plow through... no problems. :) aartod 06-29-2009, 10:34 PM I have a '90 legacy and have never chained it- even when chains were reqiured in our snowy oregon mountian passes... However, I have heard that you are supposed to chain all four, but you can get away with just the front. It is hard on the all-whell drive to have differant tire sizes, and the chains make the diameter bigger... I think this is worse for the auto-trans cars... Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2013
