P1404 on a 2003 Kia Spectra

Hi there! I'm new to the site & have a problem. I have a 2003 Kia Spectra w/a P1404 code comin up when I hook the code reader up to my car. Says, Manufacturer Controls Emission Controls, here's the thing. My car doesn't have an EGR valve on it (according to the dealer I bought it at, & the Hayne's repair manual I have.) So what else could it be? A friend of mine told me all cars have EGR valves on them. So, who's right? If someone could mail me back that'd be great, I can't check this till tomorrow (Tuesday) have to work today. Thanks guys

If it's saying something about "emision" control it could be several different items. I don't want to say what it could be and then it not be the problem. If you haven't taken it to the dealer, I would suggest that as they can look it up and fix it right there.
