When riding along listening to the radio or CD player, the stereo will make a loub popping sound and power will go out. After a few minutes it will come back on. Could it be a loose connection? If so, where do I look?
Also, the radio has poor reception on most local stations, but picks up a few really well.

Have a similar problem with a 1999 Catera. Radio power will sometimes not come on at start, and may come on or go out while driving. Wondering if anyone know why this happens.
Also, the remote often does not lock/unlock unless several tries. Same with trunk release(opening) and sometimes trunk will not open even if the inside control is pressed.
The battery in the remote was replaced, and resynchronized. Lock/unlock success rates improve but eventually deteriorates.

Read on another forum that the problem is most likely the multifunction module. It can effecdt radio, trunk remote and gas lid remote. It is located behind the panel under the steering column. Location is not obvious. It is on the far left side. I plan to replace mine. I understand the cost is $80-$90 and only available from dealer or junkyard. Let me know if you find out otherwise.
