wierd idle problem after ECTS change

today I had my ECTS changed. the old one was a brass tip but it was aftermarket. it's important to note that the connector was NOT changed (yet). At the same time I had my front passenger motor mount replaced. I drove home without incident and sat maybe an hour. I make a couple of stops. I'm sitting for about maybe 5 minutes and the idle, which is normally around 800 starts jumping all over the place. it will jump to maybe 1200, back down, back up. at the same time the temp gauge is doing some funny movements as well. this only happens when i'm idling. i can have foot on the brake or be in park and it would do it after sitting for a moment.
what could be some causes? faulty ECTS? bad connector or maybe connector not on good? the drive home I didnt have a problem at all and I sat at a light for a good while in rush hour and didnt have a problem. but after getting home for an hour and going back out is when i starting having problems. no SES lights or anything on the dash. otherwise, driving is no problems, drives like brand new car (the motor mount was shot)
any ideas?

if your changed your ECTS then its your connector. go to a junkyard and get one and splice it in :)
