:frown: Hi, I have a 2000 zx2 s /r 140,000 miles on it. It has been running great, but i was out shopping yesterday and needed gas. I went and filled up, when i started it afterwards, it was idleing weird, rpms were going up and down. I decided to go on my way and a few feet later it started knocking really bad. Then it stalled. I called the tow truck and when I arrived home tried to hear where the knocking was comming from, i believe it is from the bottom of the engine. It almost sounds as if you put a pop can in there. The car starts and idles it doesnt really knock when idleing but when you press the gas its horrible. Please give us some advise.....THANKS:crying:

hello the first thing to do is check for oil pressure

Yes, I would say the same thing check the oil pressure, just hope your bottom end bearings aren't going bad. Only had a zx2 up to 116k before i totalled the poor thing

What kind of oil filter do you have on it?

Its an stp oil filter, upon further inspection of the car, i found the timing belt was missing 19 teeth, i never got the oil pressure tested, but i am going to start with the timing belt today

Deffinette possibility of that. Just don't use FRAM oil filter.

Well my problem was solved. All the knocking was caused by being out of time. Replacing the timing belt was a bit difficult but definatly worth it! Thanks everyone for all of your help!

i used regular before the timing belt issue and afterwards thus far....the only difference is before i changed timing belt i got 38-40mpg now i get 30-35 mpg otherwise its running strong....with no knocking :)

Yeah you were getting good gas mileage because the motor wasn't running right, 30-35mpg is normal gas mileage for the ZX2, depending on how ya get on the throttle :)

the S/R pcm is ment to run 91+ octane. if your running 87 your going to detonate the car to death.
