Electrical Problems

I have a 97 that won't hold a charge on the battery. Replaced the elternator still won't hold a charge. Took the new alternator back to advance, they put it on the machine,tested it and it held a good charge. Ruled out a bad alternator. Checked all fusible links and fuses, they're fine...ANY IDEAS??? Anyone else ever have this problem? Is there any alternative to tracing the wires? Know of any hidden problems I should look for with this thing? Any suggestions other than wire tracing is good. runaround

I'd suspect this alt IF the battery is good. Use a good rebuilt or new. Search for recommendations. I've had perfect performance from a NAPA alt for over a year.

Have the battery tested under load. And check all the cable connections to make sure they are tight and clean.

Isuzus are very picky about alternators. They will eat up house brand box store ones if they work at all. Recommended are rebuilt by bosch, OEM, or napa.

Here's what it's doing...I charge the battery, start the rodeo, within 10 minutes it's down to 9.5-10 volts wont drop below that according to the gauge on the dash, runs fine, lights work and everything. As soon as I shut it off that's it, the battery needs charged again. It won't shut off on it's own, but won't start if I shut off the key.

If your battery is brand new then I would suspect the alternator. Heed the advice about using a Bosch or OEM alt. IF you run a search you'll find plenty of posts related to this topic. I find that Rodeos are prone to a lot of electrical problems, so I keep a $20 multimeter handy. You can run your own simple tests so it's worth the investment.

well you got all the info you can possibly get above. from your last post sounds like a cell in the battery is shorted, but you need to test it or get it tested, then move onto to the rest of the charging circuit including the wiring and connectors and grounds and then the alternator.
