Fuel Tank access

Today I learned that my son somehow managed to fill his fuel tank halfway with diesel. He drove it about a mile before arriving home and parking. When he tried to start it again the car ran very rough and then finally died. He was unable to restart it.

I am trying to drain the tank of the diesel but do not know how to open the tank access that is located beneath the rear seat. Is there a special tool that I need? Or should I just leave it to the pros and take it in to a mechanic?

I tried siphoning the diesel out through the fill valve but there are so many turns in the pipe that I could not get my siphon hose down to the tank. Help me before I kill him. :banghead:

I would adk the KIA place what they suggest inorder to get a hose down the fill tube otherwise it is going to be a pain in the neck dropping the tank to pour the diesel fuel out. There should be a bottom drain plug but I don't know where it is, perhaps the KIA place could help you locate it. Siphoning or draining would undoubtedly be the easy thing to do. When you accomplish either, fill it with fuel and take and spsrk plugs out and dry them then crank the engine over until you smell fuel in the cylinders. Let it sit overnight then put the plugs back in and with patience it should crack. Don't get overzealous and burn up your starter solendid or starter itself. As for the engine oil having become contaminated with fuel oil, I kind'a sort'a doubt it but if you have doubts change the oil and filter to be on the saef side.

Sounds like he pulled up to the pump and while looking at his pretty date made an error grabbed the wrong nozzle. :slap:
