you dont prime new electric fuel pumps. you make sure they are submerged in gasoline and turn ignition swith on and listen to see if you can hear it. it should run for a few minutes and quit. when it shuts off that means fuel is at injectors ready for use now start engine.

The check engine light is also on and the car engine wont crank over. Maybe if I buy a code scanner and clear the codes. Will that work??????

engine turning over is a separate issue than fuel pump. both starting and fuel pump are controlled by relays. and yes it would be advisable to get a scan tool to diagnose trouble code. you have an electrical problem by the sounds of it either a no connection issue, a relay issue or a ground issue or a combination of all of the above. hope this helps.
