Freezing Transmission Problem

I have a 2003 Accent, which I bought brand new in 2003. I live in Utah, where we can get some pretty harsh, cold winters. These past few years have been fine, but this season I encountered a problem with the transmission.
It is a manual five speed, and when left parked for a day or two, the transmission is almost un-shiftable until the car has warmed up for about 30 to 40 minutes. Litterally, the car will not shift at all. Pushing the shifter is like pushing against a brick wall, it will not go into the slots.
Has anyone encountered a problem similar to this in the past? Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks!
