Shift problems

Yesterday afternoon my automatic shift panel started to make a wierd noise whenever I shift it. Whether it be from "P" to "D", or any other type of shift. The sound is sort of like a mild scraping. Like "Bruuuunt!". It's hard to describe. After a while it goes away, but when Ive been doing a bit of driving, and shifting, it starts up again. Any solutions to what this could be?

changing gears while in motion (ala a std. transmission) is never good on automatics. Not to mention automatics aren't anywhere close to manuals because of their complexity.

It's probably normal wear on the gears and or something as a result of excessive shifting. If it's just sound i wouldn't worry, if you took it someplace they'd want to rebuild it for lots of money so unless you think something is really wrong i'd leave it alone...

Not shifting gears in motion, just regular changing of the gears. Like If Im going to park then I put it in "p", or when I start the car, and I put it in "d". Id never change gears while in motion...I mean it's a automatic, its not meant to be used that way. -_-

i guess i misinterpreted that and associated the 2, but still normal automatic wear may be the cause. How many miles do you have? 99 seems early for wear and tear problems, if not that many miles you might want to get it checked out...

check the fluid level also. it could be you ran out of fluid in there, so its starting to be just metal on metal. beyond that, just live with it like bryan said, trannies cost too much to try and fix.
