Connection between Passlock & ignition switch

My question: is the passlock system and the ignition switch related somehow?

Reason I ask is my Malibu 2002 had "Service Vehicle Soon" light. Dealer diagnosed the problem as bad ignition switch. I got it replaced. Costed me over $300.

A month after that, I could not start the car. The engine is just cranking but won't start. It happens a few times. The "Theft system" light also comes on intermittently. Brought the car back to dealer. They diagnosed the problem as "bad Passlock sensor". Cost to replace would be over $400.

Are these 2 problems related somehow?

The problems could be related as the passlock reciever is around the ignition barrel. When the ignition was replaced it could have damaged the passlock reciver making it work imtermitantly.

I believe so. After the dealer replaced the ignition switch, subsequently the problem of intermittent display of "Theft System" light came up and the problem of engine cranking but won't start occured.

Since this is only a speculation of probable cause & effect, I don't have much ground to complain but I am going to write a complaint anyway to the dealer to express my displeasure and unhappiness with the situation.

Check this thread out it tells how to bypass passlock.

This sounds like a whole lot of work.I would just find the correct resistor valve of the command comming from the ing switch to the module get some resistors that equal this value when they are soldered in a line and then solder it into the the module wiring.this way it allways sees the correct value comming from the ing switch and doesn't fail.
