What Year and Model Nissan we dealing with Geoff? and what seem to be the problem?
Sometimes Idle is effected by Carbon Build up in injectors or throttle body , this could cause idle to change. Running Injector cleaner though injectors ( not through the tank ) and cleaning the Throttle body and readjusting idle could take care of most low idle issues . IAC Valves don't normally go on Nissan's

I have a 1993 J30.
If it is carbon deposits, how do I clean it out of the throttle body?
For the injectors, how do I clean them without going thru the tank?
And how would I go about adjusting the idle?
Any good detailed directions would be greatly appreciated if you have the time.

remove air hose open throttle plate Use carbi cleaner on a rag to clean throttle body

But I am not at all familiar with what a throttle body plate looks like or where it is exactly located or under what air hose; a picture or a clear explanation of what I am supposed to be looking for would be great.
I would like to try this first because this could be the root of my problem.

No Offense , but if your not sure what a throttle body plate looks like or it's location ,you should be taking your car to someone who knows.. J30's are a little tricky in that area, Your Vech has two Throttle body's . A injector Service / Cleaning Is done by disconnecting the fuel line to the Injectors , and hooking up a Cleaner to it. Then running the Cleaner through the injector by running the car. It is not something anyone can do , Special tools are needed. I recommend you take it some where that can perform this procedure for you.

you can change your idle by rotating a sensor on your ecu
ecu is located on the passenger side next to their right foot. you have to take the ecu out to get to the sensor on the back.

Hi everyone,
For some reason, my idle drops down to about 300 rpm's when I am in drive and stopped at a light. I had this problem before when I had a bad alternator, but I changed my alternator with an OEM alternator rebuilt.
I checked the factory service manual and it states that when in nuetral, the idle should be at 720 +- 50 rpms. For my car, when in nuetral it hovers between 450 and 500. Is this too low?
And is my idle too low when I am in drive/stopped at a light? When it drops, my car gets a little rough (it seems like the car is fighting to not let the idle drop so low).
Also, I have noticed that my headlights lights dim if I leave them on and shut the car off. I don't know if this is normal to save battey consumption or if this is a power problem.
I did notice however that my alternator is putting out about 13.5 volts. The FSM states that that is fine as long as the voltage does not get higher than 15.0 volts.
Help if you can. I am thinking it could be something air related, but afte the headligts dimmed a little after the car was turned off, I am now thinking that it could be something power related.
