2003 Impala starting problem

Situation: attempt to start engine, turn key, all accessory functions (radio, fan, lights) work as key turns to acc position, continuing to turn key to start position and nothing happens. As I expected accessories stop, but no noise from starter, no clicking, buzzing, nothing. I removed and reinstalled the starter relay, same symptoms. I disconnected the battery momentarily to fool the computer into delting any error codes: same result. I charge the battery for about 12 minutes. The battery charger (set at a 10 amp charging rate) indicated the battery was accepting a 8 amp charge rate. After about 12 minutes the engine starts and runs fine. I drive to the local NAPA store: they check my battery: ok; they check the alternator output: ok @14.17 volts. This same situation happened about 2 months ago, and was remedied in the same manner. Any ideas???? I hate reliability issues as my son drives this car out of state and I'd hate to be at the mercy of an out of state clip joint.

as the ignition lock starts to go bad it can become intermittant before completelt failing. One of my cars would quit working for a few mnutes and then for a few hours, so I finally took it in and had it replaced..

I had the same issue.... It turned out the car was not recognizing my key from time to time causeing the car to activate the theft system and not allowing the car to start.

I have the same problem with my 2001 impala. It wou't start in cold weather and dies whiile I drive down the road. I took it to the dealer and am getting ready to get it back. They said the Crank Shaft Position Sensor was bad, as well as the serpetine belt was cracked -not that the belt would affect it though. Hopefully this is the answer so many impala owners need. I will give update. Thanks, Jason
