Thinking of replacing the strut and spring assembly [I'm told they can be purchased as a single unit assembly]. has anyone done this with any success?

It all depends on your skill level and tools you have. You will need several specialty tools. first let me ask you why you think the spring needs to be replaced. ?

It was bottoming out on relatively smooth surfaces...so i raised it.

It's broken at its midpoint. The lower base assembly, i think, has rusted through as well [on both sides] at least from what I see. I've had it off the road for six month. Don't have the money or time to fix it at this time. And I don't know if it is even wourth it at this point. Being a costly-rolling piece of shit after 60K miles. Well you know the story with these cars.

There offering them used up here for 10K 1-year old! Have had all the usual problems engine, suspension...yata, yata.

I've been carpooling with the wife.... [toyota].
