Usually if they're well tuned 30 - 35 mpg

The only Domestic trucks with better economy are the Ford Ranger 4 banger, and of course the Mazda which is the same truck in different clothing.

You're not going to get 30 MPG with a half-truck unless you drive no more than 50 MPH, always have a tailwind, and always drive downhill. I have hard tires, a tonneau, carry no extra weight, manually shift to upper gears (NV-1500 5-speed) as much as possible, and when I was burning straight gasoline the best highway mileage I got was 24-something. Mileage at speeds above 55-60 starts to drop rapidly, even with the tonneau. The 134-inch four get out of it's torque band at about 2,700 RPM, and efficiency starts to suffer. If you drive along with traffic at 70-75 MPH, expect more like 22 MPG highway.

Just like the Mazda is the same as the Ranger, the Isuzu is the same as the S-10/Sonoma, made on the same line in Shreveport, LA.

I had a 94 S-10 w/ a 4 cycl and 300,000+ miles on it, it always got 25 MPG city or highway. Gutless up hills, but I loved having the gas gage stay in one place after driving a few miles from the gas station. I wish I would have never bought the 2001 V-6 4x4 that only gets 16MPG.

My 02 got 25mpg whether I was driving 90 or driving 65. If I drove between 45-60 I got as high as 32. 87octane 2.2l/5sp/3.73

maybe it's this sweet massachusetts air, but my 01 2.2 5sp, w. 90k gets 31 consistantly on the hwy.

i keep it around 70-75, keep the air filter, oil, and plug wires changed... use 89 octane and a little bottle of lucas fuel system treatment every 5 or so tanks of gas.

I have a 98 S10 with the 2.2 liter 200K automatic and a tonneau cover. I have gotten as high as 30 MPG but usually consistantly get 26 to 28 MPG.

My '96 2.2, 5 speed, 2WD LS-S10 consistently stays at 22 mpg mostly city driving. On the freeway, I have gotten as high as 31, but average is around 29. All in all, it's a great truck.

I would like to improve my city mileage, anybody have any suggestions? Oil filter & lubes are current, tire pressures are good, and I recently replaced plugs & wires. Any thing else to boost my economy?

98 2.2 in texas- never gets better than low 20's...even with premium.
93,000- full dealer tuneup at 90,000, and k&n air filter. 5 speed driven like a grandpa, no extra weight, highway 30 miles a day, never ever ever ever ever gotten better than 25- 2.2 is very underpowered for such a heavy truck!
