Yesterday, my car decided to break down on me. I ended up getting it towed and when the shop called me they told me that a spark plug somehow got pulled into the head and caused damage. Now I'm gonna have to get the head replaced.:banghead: How much should I be looking to spend for this? All parts and labor included. I know there's not gonna be exact prices here, just wondering if anyone had a ballpark figure for me. Thanks. Oh, it's a 1998 2.4L.

the ONLY ways I can think it would damage the head...stripped out, or melted/welded on. the motor CANNOT make enough vacuume to pull in a sparkplug, if it did you would be replacing the entire motor.
head replacement may be too harsh, an insert in the most likely stripped out plug hole would be far cheaper and easier. It would still require removal of the head, and also the timing assembly, which would lead to a lot of labor. So you are looking at some big cash outflow on something like that, all in labor of course.

Seriously...go down to that shop (dont warn them) and tell them to show you the damage...

I recommend what 89Sunbird said, or go get a second opinion from another mechanic. A dealer wanted to charge me $1000 to just replace the seal of my transmission's oil pan. Their excuse was that the front seal was $300 and the rear seal was $700 not including labor.
Luckily I had worked on my brother's 77 Volare 2 weeks before, on the transmission so I knew they were lying. The seal ended up costing me about 12 dollars and it came with a filter.

A friend who works at my bank, his head gasket blew on his 95 Civic Del Sol....a shop wanted $1200 in supplies and $950 in labor to repair the head gasket....he was about to sell it, then a coworker's husband stepped in and did the job for $350...

does ur engine have overhead valves? it could be possible that one of them broke off and went into the engine.
