how much driving do you do!?
i've got the same car but with a 2.4l
(same color too)
i can go a week with 1/4 of a tank
Adjusting a cable won't do much, if anything.
are you sure you don't have a leak?
But if you want to try the cable, The connections are located inside a small black box, about 3" by 1.5" you have to take the cover off, mine is located at the front of the engine right in the middle. the cable on the right, turns the TB, the one on your left pulls from the pedal. be careful, the adjust nut is plastic and will break, its designed so it won't move, you need to pull the locking piece away from the threads and then you can turn it CAREFULLY if you break the little peice off, the nut will keep coming loose and needs to be replaced
Good luck

i do alot of highway driving doing about 130km/h. i do not have a gas leak either, i burn a 1/4 of a tank going to work which is about 50 km from where i live. i was also told to check my o2 sensors, is there a way i can check them to see if they are working right.

You only get 200km on a tank!?!?!?! My 2.4L gets 200km on 16 litres of gas so you are doing really bad, you might want to take that to a mechanic that sounds like you are pissing gas out the tail pipe if you burn through it that fast...

i like drive 300 km to work every week, only work 3 day weeks, and it cast me 40.00 for 3 days, if i was burning that much gas would the car act different, or i am just thinking that it is either too lean or too rich. i changed the spark plugs like 5 monthes ago and have a k&n air filter. don't like to any shopes because they rip you off most of the time saying you need this and you need that. that is my last resort is to take it to a shop. just give me some ideas that i can try to see if i can inprove it some how, oh ya forgot if i put it on cruse control i don't burn as much gas, with out it, it goes quick and the reasion i asked about the cble to the gas peddle is because sometimes it hasates at start and some times it pick up good. well i am open for any ideas

i would say check o2 sensor too but their is one right when the exhaust comes out of the engine an their should be another one after the catalitci converter. i would change fuel filter. when filling up has the car been taking less gas everytime casue ur sensor might be reading wrong?

even if your car was running too rich you wouldn't burn that much gas your engine would flood, I don't think a faulty O2 would cause that much of a gas problem. These things are hard to diagnose on-line. as for your cable, I think there is something else causing the hesitation,
another thing, how are your RPM's? are they higher than normal?
I will agree with blasz24, it sounds like your gas is going in the out pipe
what does your exaust smoke look like? if it isn't thin white that could be an indication. the thicker the smoke, the more gas is being burned.
Blue--bad,
red--your car is possesed.
green--there's another car isn't there?
clear--you stalled

my rpms are like at 120 km/h is 2500, the smoke that comes out is white but not alot does and it cast the same every time i fill up and almost get the same amount of leaters everytime.. full filter was changed last year and also have fuel system cleaned out. did i say that it was automatic . someone also to me that if my air intake valve is dirty it would cause some problems.
well keep nameing stuff and i will answer , lol

that could be a big problem,
fixing it however...
change the plugs, check them in a week if there is still oil on them take it to a shop, a mechanic can do a better check, and is trained to do this kind of stuff
whatever it is, its probably internal

man you really have a problem.:banghead:
you might want to invest in a pontiac mechanic book
(i forget the official titles)
they aren't real easy to find but if you get one for your car they detail all of the mechanical workings.
I think im fresh out of ideas but i'll let you know if i can come of with anything

Only 300 km per tank on the highway - DAMN, I get around 700 km per tank on the higway with my fire. I would have the timing checked. My last vehicle (3.0L V6 - not a sunfire) had a stretched timing belt which set the timing off and it had huge lag in acceleration and burned a crap load of fuel. I replaced the belt and timed it and all solved. Hope this helps a bit.

that might work, I forgot that the 2.2's have a belt
my 2.4 has a chain

If it is a belt (not 100% sure of that) then i would say for sure it would be stretched (if it is the original belt), and a belt should be changed every 100,000 km.

Ok I just checked and the 2.2 is a chain, but that is not to say that there are no other timing issues that could be causing this problem.

The timing is not a belt on 2000 sunfire, 2.2 l. it is a timing chain. it is self timing, well at least thats what i heard. now is it possable that the chain could have streached or something, i can't really check it out with out taking the power stearing off and the alternator. could a bad coil do this kind of stuff or the fuel pressure regulator.
