Low Idle

Hi everyone,
I have a 93 J, and for some reason when I am stopped at a red light the car rpm drops down to about 500.
Is this normal?
Also, when the idle drops down, the battery indicator comes on.
Any help will be great.
Thanks,
Geoff

Wouldn't my idle be low when just letting it run in park if it was my air control valve?
My idle is only low when I am stopped (foot on brake) at a stop light.
Geoff.

i dunno, but when my mechanic clean the idle control valve, it ran better. he said it really need to be replaced, but cleaning it would help. you also might just need some new spark plugs and stuff, a tune up, you know?

mine idles at 500 also. i have changed the spark plugs to some bosch +4 platinums and i put a new airintake on it. i also put some belt conditioner on and now when im stopped at a stoplight with the radio off i sometimes wonder if my engine is running it is so quiet. ive also noticed it has alot more pep when you let if sit with the brake off at that idle speed. the car pops up hard when you give it gas. sorta fun. no lights on the cluster though it is working fine for me.

Swimshark,
What kind or air intake do you have. Post a picture or a link to a picture if you have any.
I am interested in one, I've read that they can help in gas performance and driving performance. The ones that I have seen, I am not sure if they are air intakes or just performance air filters (if there is a difference).
I have a leak in my right exhaust manifold and I know that this has something to do with my gas milage. I am only getting about 12mpg on premium. This leak or my alternator could have something to do with my idle.
The service manual did say that when in gear and after a full warmup, the idle should drop to about 500, but my battery light comes on and that is what troubles me.
Thanks,
Geoff.

You might wanna buy an adapter so it will screw on. I just have mine on by zip ties. I think it has improved my gas mileage a lil but it is hard to determine cause my schedule is so out of wack and I dont pay attention to how many miles I get on each tank. Try putting some Bosch +4 Platinum spark plugs in too. Now that it is getting warmer here in GA my lowest idle has been 450 rpm.
