Service Engine Light

I have a 1994 Pontiac Transport. The service engine light is on but the van runs perfect. All required maintenance has always been done on time. The van has 134,000 miles on it. I'm assuming the o2 sensor may be going bad due to the milage. Just a guess. Any info on how to shut the light off would be helpful.
Thanks
Dave

I suggest first that you should read the code(s). SInce this is a '94, it is possibly a 1st series OBD1 (has pins A and B ) http://www.avigex.ca/xport/plug.jpg
that you can read from flashing the CEL. instructions here:

www.avigex.ca/xport/3800codes.jpg
(if pin B is absent, this above is not possible: need a scanner or interface to read with a portable computer...)
If the condition that caused the CEL to light up is gone, disconnect the battery for say 10 minutes while keeping the headlights switch to ON (to evacuate any capacitive charge from circuits) and this resets the ECM (will also erase "learned" parameters....which may slightly modify the engine behaviour for a little while. it will "learn" them again in a few trips.)

...that might need some more detailed description of the behaviour.....model year, engine type.....and what car does normally and does not .....is check engine light ON and did you read the codes...etc...
