i need some help here guys...at first i wanted a civic si, then after searching for a better car but not going over the $20,000 mark i found the Nissan Sentra SER Spec V. Now ive been people have been telling me that the Acura Integra GSR would be a better ride. What do u guys think. ive have also heard that a LS Vtech is way faster then the GSR. I dont know much about the integra can someone out there explain this to me and maybe lead me in a direction of what car i should chose and also tell me the benefits of picking either of the cars. This would help me out a ton....thanks

yes, LS VTEC is faster than the GSR but it's really unreliable. If i were you, i would just get a GSR and mod it up. As for the civic Si, it's almost about the same as the GSR, just .2 Liters less(1.6 as opposed to the 1.8L GSR) and about 10hp less than the GSR also. Like i said, i would either go with the GSR or the Si, but dont do LS VTEC. Just my $0.02 on it.:D

thanks for your thoughts but why is it (ls vtech) unreliable, and also what would u rather have a civic si or a acura gsr. ive heard good things about both and i was wondering what do u think is better. also, ive heard that it is easier to make a gsr faster than an si....is this true?
thanks for your help

Personally I would go for the Spec V, but I'm very biased...
GSR is probably faster (don't know much about it's specs... think the advertised HP is about the same tho), but I would just rather have a Nissan...
Plus, whenever Nismo comes to the US, Spec V Sentras will start to kick some ass...

ls vtec is good if you want a full blown race car but if it is a daily driver it is not a good idea because you basicaly have two different parts of two engines who are somewhat the same but may react differently in certain situations its a hit and miss kinda thing
go gsr and slap on a turbo:devil:

Dude, don't say that. It depends on who does it. There are ls/vtecs out there that are just as reliable as gsrs when they're done right.

Isn't the GSR motor pretty high compression? Turbos don't really work well w/ high compression... You wouldn't be able to run much boost would you?

yup. he's right. it all comes down to who is installing it. over on SHO, there is a guy with a B20 and a B16 VTEC head running 7psi of turbo boost. he's putting down 300hp at the wheel right now.plus he's been driving it for quite a while now. beating his car everytime he's at the track.

who said turbo wouldn't work with high compression engines? on honda-tech, you'll see many B18C5 (type R) engines runnin 15psi on stock pistons. the myth about lower compression is wrong. lowering compression was for older cars because they lack in the ECU area. they weren't efficient as cars today. when you boost an ODB equipped engine, the ECU detects that the car is running improper fuel mixture, its automatically retarts the ignition timing to preven detonation. st00pid, over on SHO, had his old hatch running 24psi of boost on a B18C1 engine. compression was around 9-ish. he ran the car hard with 170K miles on it and showed now sign of engine stress. it all comes down to tuning when determining how much boost your car will be able to handle.

So those weren't stock internals?

first its vtec not vtech
wtf are you saying that the stock 10:1 CR pistons can handle 15psi
yeah maybe you could get forged pistons and keep the stock compression and run higher boost but i can assure you the stock pistons will not take that much, i dont even think the walls could handle 15psi (by the way im new here and new to integras but not new to the import scene)

this is because you're dealing with a slightly larger engine in the gsr. i don't know if thats true though, they can both be made faster as long as you have $$$.
and that thing about the lsvtec not being reliable, not true. as long as you get someone who knows what they're doing to perform the head swap, it will be just as reliable as the gsr. I think everyone is saying its not reliable because people are trying to do the lsvtec conversion themselves when its no small job that anyone can do. the people with lsvtecs around here have very strong tegs that have been running for a long time without any problems.
