It would be the Cam covers leaking-It's alot of work to change the cam covers but can very easily be done-Just TIME!

Hi people look at me :banghead: . I don't have anything better then to buy a catera:banghead: which I thought was a steal judging by it's looks. I have the same problem it ended being my valve cover gaskets the parts alone for both sides is around $120. The labor is going to cost me around $400.00 gave it to a mechanic I know, he has it over a week because he opend it up and has been focusing on other cars in his shop. I wish I would have bought the repair manual and did it on a weekend even though I would have end up tearing half of the motor just to get to the valve cover gaskets, or maybe I should have taken it to a diffrent shop.or maybe I shouldn't have bought this stupid car in the first place and have had the couarge to get asain model instead of sorry opel with a caddy emblem. I hop that's the last problem I will encounter because my wallet is eeeeeeeemmmmmmppty.
by the way when I'm driving the lights in dashboard pop up once in a while and they go off for the radiator, check engine any help. Save yourself some pain don't buy a catera you will not find any mercy.:banghead: Help anyone out there plz.

Had the same problem with a 2000 cat that I picked up.....took some time but replaced the gaskets for the valves (did it twice actually because I listned to someone who said you don't need to use silicone on those)....not a hard job but takes some time as you have to rip most of the upper engine apart but it's workable....just make sure you have a good set of torx sockets and that you don't over tork the plastic valve covers and crack them (because you don't want to have to pay more than you have to fixing a catera) oh yea and make sure you hook up all the vaccume hoses you pull off too....good times

I OWN A 98' Catera and had the same problem and several mechanics told me that it was the valve cover gasket!
