I'm trying to fix this 2000 Cavalier 2.2L. It starts fine and will continue to run great if you give it throttle. Tried new IAC motor--no change. The IAC is NOT being controlled--it sits closed when having problem(I can watch the pintle through the throttle body opening). Somewhat intermittent---I got it to work 2 times randomly and it worked until I shut-off the engine w/key and restarted..then back to the dying. NO CODES stored. TPS is great, IAT great, O2 working, not running too lean or rich, great battery voltage. Just no IAC operation! I am baffled with this. I've read every "no-start" post there is(2 hrs. worth) and none were like this.

Do Cavaliers have mass air flow meters?

Nope, they have MAP sensors--which I tested and it's working great--nice and smooth throughout it's range.
