ok,
so in your bio, it only shows a honda, no S10, so I am unsure what year and engine size.
if it IS a four cylinder, go to a turbo muffler. this will be the closest to non-"putter" and limit the backfire to almost nil.
if it's a V6; headers. the backfire is probably from exhaust gases mixing in the factory logs, and hot fumes being partially back into another cylinder's valves. headers will dedicate an individual runner to each cylinder for its exhaust to push down and away from the other cylinders' pull of intake/exhaust strokes.
you still are not going to be able to produce a "rumble" like a V8 without expense to increase HP in the engine or back to a different type of "tuned" muffler, that will provide a more throaty exhaust note.
Flowmaster series (40 or 70?), but a Dynomax muffler will allow the generation of more power due to its ability to flow more free; but then you are back to backfire, a never-ending cycle.
Walker/Dynomax makes a Super Turbo (series 17; like #17733 or 17767) that will fit most 2.8L and 4.3L V6 S10s, and it just depends on the exhaust pipe mounting sizes (as different yr/models came with 2-1/2" to 2" inlet/outlet pipes) that will give a more healthy rumble in lower RPMs, and produce (at WOT/full pedal) a more "buzz" rumble closer to shift points, without sounding "putter" or import "fart-cannon" design, without many backfires (some will still be there, as an OEM muffler increases backpressure/but limits noise, performance mufflers are opposite) and a good healthy note.
so, by dropping a 355" in your S10, you will get an EXCELLENT rumble, but I think the answer you wanted was somewhere in the previous paragraph.

hope this helps,
if not, PM me, and I can give better recommendations, dependent upon what specifically you are trying to do,
