 this is only about the 500th time this has been covered

Instead of re-typing most of this I will just put a quote from a different thread that I posted this in....................

Ok, most companies sell the "complete" motor. Which will most of the time include the following : (this list was borrowed from srswap.com)

-Top Engine Harness
-ECU engine harness
-ECU
-Lower Engine / transmission harness
-Power Steering pump
-Power Steering high pressure Line
-Power Steering reservoir if SOHC car, DOHC has correct reservoir
-Alternator - can use some DOHC KA Alternators
-Starter
-AC compressor
-Ignitor Chip and assembly
-Wastegate solenoid controller
-Turbo inlet pipe
-Turbo outlet pipe
-Canister
-Engine mounts
-MAFS - SOHC can be wired to work
-Turbo
-Wastegate actuator
-Cam Angle Sensor
-Throttle Body
-Turbo exhaust outlet extension
-Bell housing bolts

So most of the time the engine will come complete with everything. Some things like the AC compressor are not always included, but you can use the AC compressor from the KA24DE on your SR if you don't get an SR compressor. The KA24E compressor will not work at all with the SR. Power steering lines are also sometimes missing from the engine, but you can use the power steering lines from the KA24DE. They have said in magazines and all that it's always better to purchase a front clip (complete car from A-Pillar forward) because they don't take the engine out of the car for you and they will leave everything in there for you to take out. They generally cost more but can save you time in ordering missing parts or searching junkyards for parts that you need.

You will need some sort of an intercooler. Most of the time it's not included when you buy the complete engine but if you buy a front clip then it should come with the stock side mount intercooler. This intercooler is very small compared to most of the FMIC. If you plan on raising your boost over the stock 7psi then it would be a good idea to go ahead and purchase a FMIC instead of just using the stock side mount intercooler. The side mount can be used if you leave boost at the stock setting though.

Downpipes are also another common part that is missing from the engines. You can buy these at a lot of places. www.greddy.com stocks the SR20DET downpipe here in America so there will be no waiting time, instead of having it shipped over from japan.

No mods needed to get it to line up. The S13 chassis in japan is the same as our S13 chassis so it will all line up right.

I've heard that the JWT ecu is a very good upgrade for the SR. The stock one is fine though. You can decide if you want it or not depending on your budget.

There's not much of a difference in putting an SR into the S14 chassis than the S13 chassis. Just make sure that you use the S14 engine mounts.

you can buy SR20DET's at the following places:
www.srswap.com
www.unstable-hybrids.com
http://infinitemotorsports.net
http://www.jspecauto.com
http://www.venus-auto.com (currently under construction)

those are just a few places to buy them. just search the internet and you will find a lot of places. Also you can ask around town and find people that have done this swap and ask them where they got theirs. Go to some shops near you and see if they sell them. also I see them for sale a lot on www.ebay.com although I wouldn't buy one from ebay because most of the time no gaurantee is offered so you can't be sure on what your getting.

And yes I agree, we should make a FAQ that everybody should read first before they ask a question because a lot of questions get asked that have been asked and answered before.

Hope this helps a little :)

The S13/S14/S15 is the chassis code for these cars.
For the japanese models, the chassis's are as follows:

S13 Silvia (88-93)
S13 180SX (90-96)

S14 Silvia (94-99)

S15 Silvia (99-present)

these next ones are for the US versions:

S13 240SX (89-94)

S14 240SX (95-96)

MCS14 240SX (97-98) - The S14 and the MCS14 are the same cars and the same chassis but the MCS14 (the MC stands for Minor Change) had a different front end (hood, fenders, headlights, front bumper).

Sadly, there is no S15 model for us here in America :(

for more sites on where to find SR's to buy, then check out this thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t44654.html

As for smogging the SR, it will not pass emissions in it's stock form. With a new catalytic converter, spark plugs, and running the car lean (greater proportion of air than fuel), then you have a better chance of passing. Or you could always become really good friends with somebody that does inspections and have him hook you up with an inspection sticker :D

No! 2D is theire code for the 240SX coupé and 3D is for thehatchback:rolleyes:
That comes from 2/3 doors as they most often count the trunk lid as a door when it opens together with the back window. And most hatchback versions open like this. Got the point?

I think that the SR swap into a 240SX is a very good upgrade and well worth it. Yes there are a ton of aftermarket parts available for the SR20DET, just not here in America. Most of the parts will have to be bought directly from japan and you will have to pay expensive shipping to get them over here. There are a lot of US-based companies though that sell JDM parts here in America and you can always buy from them. The 3dr 240SX is also known as a hatchback or a fastback. the 2dr 240SX is the coupe version. Our 240SX hatchback is the same as Japan's 180SX and our 240SX coupe is the same as Japan's Silvia. they are the same from the a-pillar back, the engines are different. The first pic is of the hatchback (3dr) and the second pic is of the coupe (2dr)

If this guy were even still a member here after a TWO YEAR OLD thread, I'm sure he could go here (http://srswap.com/faq.htm) and have all of that information for free. Stop bringing up dead threads.

...check the date of the majority of the posts in the thread. if the thread is 6 months old or older, then PLEASE DO NOT POST IN IT! these threads are in the back pages for a reason. it's because they're dead. usually, the members who started those threads aren't even members of this forum anymore, so any extra posting now would be irrelevant...

Straight from the sticky in this forum labeled "NEWBIES!!! look here." I'll be surprised if you're not banned when he sees all of your dead thread raising.
