Transaxle Refill

I can't find any filler plug on my 2000 Camry V-6 A/T differential. My Haynes manual shows one and it says that the diff. unit is separate and must be individually filled. I am hesitant to drain the unit if I cannot find the way to refill it! I did my '98 Camry 4-Cyl. differential last year and the filler was easy to find on that unit. I have looked with lights and mirrors and there simply is NO filler plug on this diff. in my 2000 V-6. What's the deal. Will it fill from the A/T unit?

You don't have one. Older models did . You fill it through the transmission dip tube. If you look where the old refill hole used to be it's probably a solid cast indention.

If this is the case, it is necessary to drain the fluid from the differential drain plug as well? Or is draining the fluid from the trans axle pan drain plug good enough? Or do you need to drain from both before refilling through the Trans Oil Dip Stick/Fill tube?

There is a filler hole and it is located where the front wheel of the driver
side is. It is impossible to see unless the wheel is removed. Once the
wheel is removed you will see it. Look down where the bottom of the
transaxle is located. It is a 17 mm bolt with a large washer. The drain bolt is
a bolt with a 10 mm hex hole inside near the side. Note the filler bolt is
difficult to reach and you will need a 1 foot socket extention for your
socket to reach the bolt. Also the filler bolt will be hard to get off if it is
the first time take out.

I see your transmission is different than mine. Mine is a 1998 V6 XLE made
in Japan. Mine has a bolt to fill the differential but it seems yours doesn't.

This is my point exactly ... Am I missing something or is it a fact that the 1999 (v6) Camry has some trannys out with and some without a separate differential compartment that needs drained/filled?????

I have been told that 1999 and newer differentials do not have fill plugs and are filled from the transmission. They are drained through the drain plug. 1998 and older have fill plugs and are filled that way.

btw, does this apply to the 4cyl engine also?
Do the I4 and V6 share a trans and/or diff?
I'd assume not. That would mean that either the trans is on the edge on the v6, or a little robust for the I4 (boost anyone?).

The transmissions/differentials are different for the V6 and the I4. This does apply to the 4 cylinder differentials.
