i have the head unit from my old truck that i plan to put in because my stock cd player in my 2001 se is not reading cds and it was going to cost me 350 to get it fixed i am looking to spend around 500 on my stereo i have a friend who is good with the wiring and is going to do it for me at cost so i was wondering if anyone had any sugestions on what works well speaker wise to come in around 500

That's such a broad question. So many configurations you could utilize. Having the 2000 SE with stock unit, I can say it sucks. Personally I would probably look at a cheaper head unit, and put some money into a good amp and subwoofer. Then replace out your stock speakers as money allows.

Of course, I'm past the "I want my ride to thump" stage. I do like bass and good acoustics, but won't dump alot of cash to achieve it. Good luck!
