Trans problem??

I have a 2001 Pathfinder auto trans. Between 3k-4k when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd (cold) it seems to slip into gear rather than just catch and go! Is this a problem or is it normal like the dealer I bought the car from says?

There is a problem with your transmission. Its a bad solenoid. I just had had the same problem myself, got it back from the shop two days ago (after two weeks). The problem with diagnosing this issue is once the transmission is hot, the issue disappears. When I went to my dealer I left my car overnite, and told them to drive it in the morning when the tranny was cold, and to accelerate moderate to hard. Thats when the problem is most apparent, and they recognised it right away. If your under 60K it's covered under your powertrain warranty. If your dealership won't acknowledge the problem, you should call mine; (270) 781-6770, ask for Nissan service (they are a multi-make dealership) and inquire about the 01 red Pathfinder they just performed service on.

That's great, thanks! The mileage is at 60,253 tonight! I told them to drive it cold but who knows what they did! I think I will call your dealer and ask what they did.

If you had it in for this before you crossed the 60k marker, then it is a documented issue before you went out of warranty. You should be able to get it covered. Not your fault the dealer could not figure it out.

I bought it just over the 60k mark. I had it in again for a service engine light and they found the crank sensor bad. I have 24k left on the extended warrany so I will drive it untill it acts up more!
