I wanted to know that if I buy a bored out throttle body would i have to take out or lift my engine to put it in. Any help would be appriciated. I have a 2200 engine.

If you plan on doing thise to your stock one, all you have to do is disconnect your vaccume lines and sensors etc. and remove the... i believe its 4 bolts holding it to the intake mani.... remove your engine :eek7:

Thanks for the info. If i could look at my engine bay right know i would probably have seen that. So what your saying is that its easy to install a new one.

What size TB should i get for the best performance. Ive seen some that are 62mm but a lot of people have bought 59mm(i think thatwas the size). What would be the performance diff. Is the 62mm to big.

the second gens and 95-97 had 52mm stock TB, which can be bored to 59mm max. The newer motors (2200, EcoTec, 2.3 & 2.4) have a different TB and it can be bored to 62mm. RSM Racing has a few, but you could get it done cheaper if you know the right people and do it locally. My advice is to go to a junkyard and grab another TB and have it bored, that way you can still drive while it's being done and if they muck it up you haven't totally screwed yourself out of a ride for a few days.

so for my 00 2200 62mm is not to big

I would bet that if RSM is boring them to 62mm that it's not too big, your ECU is gonna add more fuel to compensate for the extra air. I also bet it won't be too much for the stock fuel system to handle. IMO this could be the most bang for the buck, cheap-er upgrade.

i wouldn't go that big... i'd stay in the high 50's for a 2.2

so 59mm would work fine for my car. How much power do you think this mod will add.

CRJ you said it was easy to take out if i was to get my stock TB bored out. Is it going to be the same if i ordered one online that was made for my car.

yeah,i agree. i wouldnt go any higher than 59mm on a stock engine

does ne1 know how to bore it by yourself and the right tools to use? want to try it on my own with a spare TB!

Shoving more air into a motor is pointless unless you have the accompanying mods to make it matter (ie;exhaust+fuel)

Shoving more air into a motor is pointless unless you have the accompanying mods to make it matter (ie;exhaust+fuel)

So you are assuming that the stock fuel system runs at 100% capacity and will not be able to keep up with the extra air from a bored TB.?!

Think about it, the engine is still going to consume the same amount of air, a little more, but nearly the same, the stock fuel system can handle a <5% increase in volume.

By installing a larger throttle body you are opening up the "bottleneck" to increase efficiency. Think of it as removing a restrictor plate. Your engine is not going to consume more "massive" amounts of air, unless you increase displacement or turbo/supercharge it. You will notice a power gain as the motor does not have to work as hard to pull in air on the intake stroke.

Example: Imagine a 10mm TB, the engine will be using so much of it's own power to "suck" air through that tiny hole it starts creating a vacuum in the intake manifold, so you will have less-dense air entering the cumbustion chamber and hence, less power. A larger TB will allow the engine to effortlessly take in air and you'll get the most-dense air that our atmosphere can provide.

So does anyone know how much power this will give him?

you could run a 62mm throttle body and you might notice a few HP gained.. but the most you will notice is the quicker throttle response
