I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden the check engine light came on. When i got into town I stopped at a near by Autozone and they ran a check, it came back with a P0741-torque converter stuck off. 1st what exactly is this? 2nd How do i fix this problem?

Feed back greatly appreciated

let ma also add that the car did not react any differently when the check engine light came on. Also today the check engine light went away, is the problem still there?

It sounds like a one time, torque converter stopped thing. I would hope. You would certinly know if it stopped working seeing how it handles the power between your engine and transmission.

Also, How stuff works has a good description of what the Torque Converter does.

the torque convertor locks up after 55 which is the overdrive it might not be locking up. Last time i had the tranny replaced it threw out a code saying mine was stuck on which caused it to slam into 4th or overdrive after 1st gear and i would have no power. If your gas mileage goes down it might not be kicking into overdrive. BTW this is my own dumbass theory so it probably isn't correct lol

Thats somewhat right, your gas milage would reduce because if there are issues with the Torque Converter, the car will tend to stop using overdrive for whatever reason. I had a car in the past that did that... or when it did go into overdrive, it wouldn't go out unless I 'manual shifted' the auto tranny. God what a pain in the ass that was.
