Swapping tranny gutz

Ok im looking for info on swapping out the gutz in my manual trans with an escort or any other car that'll work, i know jeff jeske did it with an 2000 escort but i need to know what other years/motor sizes will work and if anyone else has done this how hard was it and what changed after?
