GTI/Golf engine life?

In general, how long will a GTI/Golf last in terms of mileage? I'm thinking of buying a used 2000 with 90k miles. I want to know if it's worth the money (around 9k)

My old 1994 golf mk3 2L was fine when I sold it with half a million KM. Only minor repairs (Distributor rotor and cap, coolant pump, and the usual) didn’t burn any oil ether. I was using Mobil 1 synthetic oil and changed it very 5k KM. My new car is a 96 VR6 with 135k KM and it runs like a champ.

The vr6 engines usually last till 130k then you would prob. need new cam chains and tensioners which run at least a 1500 repair plus u need a clutch cuz you have 2 drop the trans to change the chains/tensioners so at least 2000$ there. I have not seen a 1.8T with more than about 90K on it soo i dont know what probs they have other than the 99-01 1.8t turbos only last about 90-100k miles and a new turbo is about 1300$ from VW.
