I can only apologise regarding my last massage and the spelling.

Hiya

Sorry to ask probably a very obvious Q. but can you help?
Yesterday i was driving my golf and put my foot on the clutch but it went straight down and hit the floor never to come back up! I have no gearing now although it can be driven by starting the engine in gear etc, There seems to be a little piece of a metal plate the came away that has a few spot welds on it on it about 1/2 inch (uk) that has come away totally. The recovery guy had never seen this before and said maybe it looks a bit terminal. There is no hydrolic fluid leaking or anything, i can't get to the garage as i :naughty: :naughty: n the UK it's a bank holiday. Any advice would be great, Happy new year too!

PS it's the original clutch and it done 113,000 miles

It should be cable operated. Where did this piece break from; floorboard, transaxle, linkage?

the metal piece came away from the inside of the car at the very top of the clutch pedal where it links (iguess) to the cable or hydro fluid. (the Guy said it was not cable operated?).
Thanks

I know some of the A2 golfs and jettas the metal tube that stuck through the firewall for the clutch cable would break off the pedal bracket. we used to replace the pedal bracket or repair the old one by brazing it.

Well i can't be sure this is your fault, but i've had a couple of brake pedal boxes break in the welds which are attached to the clutch pedal.
Those were on polo gti's though,so...and these were an absolute nightmare to replace!
Good luck with the replacement or repair.
