What is everyone's thoughts on a boost controller installed on a 02 1.8t with only a cold air intake? Who makes the best? And what kind of psi increase is the best/safest?

turboxs has a good one. as does apexi. many people do this in leu of a chip, or do it as a temporary solution till they can afford a chip. becuase your not changing any of the engine's computer signals or anything, dont try increasing the boost dramatically. ive never run a boost controller before, so i cant really tell you how much to turn it up to. but as a benchmark, most chips are 1 - 1.2 bar, translating to 14-18 psi. stock, your car has around 10 psi stock

dont forget to get an exhaust or atleast a downpipe to help the turbo out

the 02 gti runs at around 6 psi. with a good boost controller like greddy profec b spec 2 you can run 16 or 17 psi. at the most. the giac computer chip turns the boost up to 17 psi. so its safe as long as you know what your doing.

abd and freedom design makes a boost controller specifically designed for gti/jetta 1.8ts. Highest boost level i think is 14 or 15 boost, but ive heard people run 17-19 psi with the boost controller on highest level. I recommend running boost levels of around 12 or so with a intake all the time. Just like edspecr said, downpipe and exhaust would help the turbo breathe better, also a 4 bar fps would help.
