4 Wheel Drive Problems w/02 Trailblazer

After putting the Trailblazer in 4 WD I get a "Service 4WD" light that comes on and it won't allow you to switch back to 2 WD until you park the vehicle and turn it off. This has happened for the 7th time recently. GM has upgraded the computer programs, replaced the transfer case selector switch, replaced 4 x 4 switch (that could be same as transfer case selector switch?) made a drain in the harness, replaced front diff locking actuator, and replaced terminal. Has anyone else had these on-going problems and has anyone been able to get an adequate repair? I need help. Thank you for any advice.

I had a similar problem in which my Service 4WD light came on about 4 times within a week and by the time I got my vehicle in for service, my transfer case had to be completely replaced along with the selecter switch (costing over $1,300). I had 47K miles at the time. As told by the manager of the service department, who had been there many years and whom owns a 4WD chevy vehicle himself (we live in Anchorage,AK), the reason my 4WD went out is due to excessive use of the Auto 4WD selection on the switch. He said that the auto 4 wheel drive option will switch in and out of 4 wheel drive so much that the transfer case will wear out prematurely. I would say. And a convenient number that 47K....Just a few more than the 36K warranty. The service manager actually told me that he has seen it often enough that he wont even use the Auto 4WD option.
As a side note, the paint has been chipping off the door panels down low where road debris has been hitting it. This may not sound like an unusual problem, but look at similar SUVs with many more miles and the vast majority of them dont have half as many chips. The district manager of Chevy for my area refused to even look at my vehicle and dismissed my complaint. I owned a Grand Cherokee for 5 years and 89K miles with hardly any paint chips so it isnt my driving style (which is in a city with few rocks on the street). This is all despite the fact Chevy had distributed a service bulliten to all the dealerships stating that the district manager should look at any Trailblazers where paint chipping had been complained about in the same specific areas of the vehicle as mine. Obvioulsy there had been enough complaints for Chevy to produce the service bulliten, but someone on the corporate level stated that the final decision on whether or not to repair the paint on those panels. Gee I guess their hands are tied

Thanks for your reply. After taking it in for the 11th time, the determined that there was an electrical short and told me they pinpointed it. They put in a new xfer case and replaced 3' of electrical cable. Haven't had the problem since (it's been about 2 weeks). That is interesting about the A-wd. I hardly ever use the A-wd, I just usually put it in 4wd.

Interesting about the paint. Another Trailblazer owner was showing me where the paint looks like it's being "sandblasted" of the front of the back wheel wells (on the bottom part of rear doors). I noticed it happening on mine as well. Do you know what happens if you complain? They will take it on a case by case basis and repaint the car? Just to have it happen again???

This is not what I wanted to hear!!!
I just bought a used 2003 with 43k miles on it.
My problem is that when it's in Auto 4, the selector switch tries to put it in 4 hi (at least the 4 hi light goes on), then the 4 lo light blinks as it if it's trying to then switch it to 4 LO. Not a good thing when you're cruising down the highway.
I have the then assume that the previous owner had it on Auto 4 for most of the time. This is going to be fun trying to get the dealer to help out on this one.

I Have A 2004 And It Is In The Shop Right Now For This Problem. The Tech Drove It And Said There Was A Problem.i Drove It There When It Came On Today, My Tb Has 5000 Miles On It. I Have Also Had Problems With The Molding Inside Falling Off And Having To Be Replaced, Bulges In The Tires (bf Goodrich), A Noise In The Steering, Terrible Wind Noise, Even After Putting Visors On Front And Back Of Each Door. Not Happy With This Vehicle.

Hello fellow trailblazer owners with bad 4 wheel drives...I have an 03 North Face Edition with 23,000 on it. Last year, the awd worked fine. This year, the first time I switched it on, a steady grinding sound from the front wheels started. I tried switching it in and out a few times, and it never went away. So I called for service at GM, and while driving it in during a snow storm, I put it in 4hi. Did o.k. for a few miles...then it made a LOUD grind noise...shuttered...jerked...shook the steering wheel...then the front wheel seized!!!! I threw it in neutral, switch back into 2wd, and got it to the dealer. It's still under warranty thank God. I just got it back today after 2 weeks and 1 day. THEY REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE...SAID IT WAS BROKE IN HALF...AND THAT IT EVEN BROKE THE HOUSING Drove it 2 blocks (it was in 4 hi when I picked it up. It felt "funny", but it's snowing again, so I didn't worry about it. I switched into awd...then BAM!!! Its grinding & shaking my steering wheel violently...pulling first to the right...then the left!!!!I'm panicing because I can't even stay in my lane...it's like my steering linkage is broke. I put it into 2wd...and it won't go!!! My speed all by itself ( because of the obivous problem in the drive train) suddenly brings me to a dead stop in the middle of the highway. Finally when I got on the shoulder of the road, I got it back to 2wd. WHAT IS UP!!! DO YOU SMELL RECALL? Who do we contact about reporting our problem?
P.S. My check 4wd light has NEVER come on!!

I have just purchased a used Trailblazer with 74k on it (what was I thinking). Anyway, I have had it in twice already for 4wd problems. While driving in 2HI it will swtich into 4HI and 4LO automatically. I am taking it back in tomorrow, it is covered under a 30 day warranty, here is hoping it all gets fixed before my time runs out.

Anyone else had this problem, what did it turn out to be? They replaced my switch and clearly that didn't fix it. I love the truck, but I would like some advice into how to ensure this gets fixed right...is it the Transfer Case? computer? wiring? Big or small fix?

HELP!
