Xtera Lifters

My girlfriend just aquired a 2000 xtera from her grandma with 35K on it. Her grangmother of course drives like a grandmother but the lifters are starting to make the all too well known "tic" noise. Does anyone know why the lifters are of such poor quality. The same thing happened to my 94 Hardbody. Is there a place I can find higher quality replacement lifters? :dunno:

Are you sure it's the lifters? Ticking can also be the fuel injectors and the exhaust manifold. Xterras make the lifter ticking sound the first 3 seconds of startup in the morning as well.

Since you had the problem with your Frontier you probably know it's the lifters, but I thought I would ask to save following another path.

Hydraulic lifters are known to do that. The valve spring tension after shutdown squeezes the oil out of some of 'em and they make a little noise until they get pumped back up. It's not unique to the Nissan VG engines, I've heard of many other non-Nissan engines w/ hydraulic lifters that do the same thing.
