have a 96 and found drivers side stuck in the middle. Took apart and found plastic coated cable twisted and frayed. Will try junk yard before dealer. Noticed others have had simular issues with seat belts. Motor wanted to go but couldn't. Had to force it after removing whole unit.

I had the same problem with my 95. I removed the whole stupid apparatus, and replaced it with a normal seatbelt from Wesco ( on the internet). Installation was easy, I used the original floor & seat mountings, with a little work on the pillar mount. Cost about $50.

I have a 1996 Esccort with the same problem. I went to a junk yard and bought a complete unit. It comes with the track and the motor. It is not that hard to do. I paid 50.00 for it. This is a real common problem with Escorts.

ya went today and got one on sale $20. Probably felt bad cause of the rain but a easy fix. There is a difference though between 2/4 door and the first place wouldn't belive me.
