here's my set-up

After researching many posts and getting good advice from Brent and others, heres is what I decided to go with for now:

265/65/16 or 285/65/16 BFG TA K/O AT (can't decide which ones!!)
Torsion Bar adjustment - 1"
Bilstein 5100 Series Shocks (http://www.spencerlowracing.com/products/bilstein_5100.htm)(will I need to get longer ones for the front?)
SLR 3-Pack Add-A-Leaf System (http://www.spencerlowracing.com/products/aal.htm)
As far 1" Rear Shackles (http://www.spencerlowracing.com/products/shackles.htm)...Do I really need them??

I wanna get this stuff in the near future:

I don't think you need the shackles in additon to the AAL's - you don't want the ass-end of the X up too high, it would look funny. I'd suggest just doing the T-bar crank and installing the AAL's, and if you do decide you want more lift in the back you can order the shackles at that point.

Are your tires a typo? 265/65R16 is only 29.6" tire. Those will look small even with a T-bar crank and AAL's, let alone the lift. If you mean 265/75R16 (31.8"), I'd highly suggest it (that's the size I have - also KO's). It slows you down a bit, but you have an Xterra and shouldn't worry about speed anyway! The KO's are a great choice as are the shocks. I'm pretty sure the front shocks are the same length whether you have a lift or not. The back one's are different, though.

Shock part #'s:

Front: F4-B46-1099-H2
Back (stock): F4-BE3-6422-H0
Back (shackles/lift): F4-B46-2126-H0

My understanding on the shocks is that you are supposed to use the stock size for a stock X or an X with just AAL's (no more droop than stock so they don't need to be longer). If you have a lift or shackles you should get the longer version.

Can somebody verify the shock info? I'm not totally positive.

Yeah, the tire size was a typo. I meant 265/75/16. I can't remember, but is that considered a big 31" or a small 32" tire. I am going to be ordering everything except the tires from SLR, so I can ask Spencer about the shocks if nobody else replies.

Oh, does anybody have a link to SchrockWorks? I did a search but nothing came up.

It varies a bit by brand and type of tire, but for the BFG AT/KO's the 265/75R16 is actually .1" taller than the 32x11.5 tire (31.8 v. 31.7). So a 265/75R16 is generally considered a 32" tire.

It is about 1" narrower, though.

Edit - the 265/75R16 is also D rated, whereas the 32x11.5 is C rated. Not that it matters on an Xterra.

The tire rating in a 16" tire can be a big factor. It isn't an issue in the Goodyear or the ProComp line of tires, but 16" is considered an LT tire. That means that usually the minimum ply rating is 6. I have seen them up to 10 plys. The weight of an Xterra is such that even aired down it won't compress the tire well past 6 plies. So if you go to a Swamper or another tire later on, make sure you factor that in when evaluating which tire to use. I use the 265/75R-16 for road use and have been very happy with it even when pulling my boat. You can think of a 265/75R-16 as the equivalent of a 10.50/32-16. The section width is about that of a 10.50, but the tread width is usually slightly narrower than a 10.50. In the ProComp it is quite a bit narrower at the tread than a standard 10.50. Mine uses the 10.50 section width with a 7.50 tread width and it is an AT for those wondering.

Went out to NTB and bought the BFG AT K/O's (265/75/16). The guy put them on, turned the wheel and of course the rubbed the mudflap. So the manager comes out and ask's me why I want them so big and I told him why. I said I wasn't worried about the mudflap cause I was gonna trim it anyway. So he tell's me they can't let them on like that cause they won't pass inspection. He gave me some bullshit answer like there wasn't enough room between the tire and fender. About a month prior I had my accord out there for new tires. It is lowered 3", so you can only get a finger between the tire and fender. When I told him they put those tires on, he basically called me a liar and said they didn't put them on. So now I have to take them somewhere else to put on. Oh well. My springs and AAL's will be Wednesday, so I am looking forward to getting them put on and hitting some trails soon.

Well that sucks - the guy sounds like a dick. Not sure where you live, but if you have a Discount Tire or America's Tire Company (the name depends on where you live) nearby I'd recommend them. They installed my tires with no problems and even asked a bunch of questions about the Xterra. They sometimes have good sales, too - seems like I ended up paying $100 less than list or something, though it was still expensive as hell (damn 16" wheels :banghead: ).

Remove the flares (3 screws) before you go to the shop. That should give you close to 2" and you can do the trimming at home.

While I'm at it, I will probably take the front mud flaps off too. It was funny to cause the guy that put my tires on had a Jeep with 35's on it. He told me they put them on there and he didn't have that much room betweent the tire and front fender/rear quarter. Thanks
