Lifter Tick

Anyone got any simple ideas on getting rid of a lifter tick on a 96 Legacy 2.2 engine?
Here's one I heard of not so sure I want to do it, but it is put 1qt to 2qts of tranny fluid to 3qts to 2qts of oil run it for a few miles, and change with fresh oil. Suppose the detergents in tranny fluid are going to clean the lifter oil passages. But again a little apprehensive on running tranny fluid through the engine.

you could try getting some engine flush and using it AS THE DIRECTIONS ON THE BOTTLE SAY. It seems to do a pretty good job of cleaning the engine. I would be very apprehensive of dumping trannie fluid into my oil. Doesn't sound right to me. I also have a "tick" that is pretty noticeable when the engine is cold, esspecially on acceleration. It usually goes away once the engine has warmed up though. I've been told this is normal though.

I bet you have hydro lifters. You can get replacements that will solve your issue for cheap from the dealer.
Make sure to bleed them properly before installing them. Its easy to get air trapped inside.
What kind of oil do you run and how often do you change it?

I run 10W30 full synthetic. Been running it in the engine since 40k miles. I typically change it every 7500 miles.

I run 10w30 Castrol GTX right now. I've only had the car for going on 6k now, and I have my second oil change coming up.

I have a 1990 legacy 2.2l engine i would say it is 1 or 3 possible things 1.your ports holes on your rocker arm assembly are plugged try unplugging them with a needle or something 2.could be the lash adjusters try replacing them 3. your rocker assembly might not be holding pressure in the port that the lash adjusters sit in.
hope i help take care
