I just got a 88 pulsar with 1.8 engine. The engine temp will not rise unless I stick in traffic. Is it normal in this car? Because I have testdrived
two other pulsar, they seem to have the same problem.

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck, try fitting a new one.

You have an air pocket. there is a release valve, like a bleeder valve for your coolant system.this will let any air out.... The short cut to this is to drain your system. Jack the front of your car 4-5 inches off the wheel (ground) height when you refill. this should solve your problem.

When it gets hot is the thermo fan comming on?
It's controled by a temp sender at the back of the thermostat housing which signals to the ECU to turn on the themo fan.

I've got a 1993 Pulsar M1 and sort of have the same prob. Could having your thermostat stuck open result in the engine running rich?

Yes if the engine does not get to normal temp the ECU runs in rich mode until it does.

Thanks for your reply. So when it's up to temp it should no longer run rich? But if it still does is it more likey to be a problem with the carb?
By up to temp on my car i mean just below half way on the temp dail. Is this where it should be on my Pulsar? Anyone else out there with the same engine - when driving on the motorway with it being cold outside (say below 10 degree's C) and doing 100km/h the whole time where does your temp sit?

Yes just below the half way mark and your heater should "belt out" lots of warm air! If not change the thermostat. Is your Pulsar a multi point fuel injected a throttle body fuel injected or carb model?

It's the carb model. The heater puts out looks of hot air when on. How does that relate to the thermostat? Cheers.

Usualy means the themostat is working OK the temp gauge may have a problem and the carb may need a overhaul to check fuel float level.
