I have an '03 fronty and used silverstars and am pretty happy. The highbeams are super bright and last i checked i there was just minimal blue/purple tint. didnt bother me non. comparing to stock bulbs. Now i wanna put em in my X, but what is the deal with HID or H3. im new to this so can someone explain what is the advantage and disadvantage to changing to HID or H3. are they the same thing?
also, i think the stock fog lights are pretty weak. Has anyone changed the bulbs in these things? Is it the same system as the headlights where you pop out a bulb? or do you gotta remove the whole light? What is the best bulb for this. can this be changed to amber? does anyone know any super bright whites for this. Granted for true fog light function i know amber is the best (from a physics standpoint).

Since HID lighting wasn't a priority for me, I can't answer your questions there. The fog light question on the other hand I can answer. Prior to adding a winch and bumper to the front of my X, I had fog lamps on it. I also found them to be awful dim to suit me. I removed the bulbs and found out they were 30 watt instead of 55 watt. I replaced them and ran them for a couple of years without issue. But (and this is the caveat), I didn't use them that often. I have heard of some people having problems with them in conjunction with the factory plastic lenses. I never had a problem but I am one of those people who use them only when needed. I know there is a glass replacement lense for them that many have done to good effect though.

For my 02' X, i have the Piaa's Xtreme White H3 bulbs installed. It looks amazingly whiter and brighter than stock. It actually looks like a true HID. Wish i can post the pic but don't know how....

I had PIAA Superwhites, and now only have one as the other burned out. I replaced it with the Silverstar and can honestly say save your money and go with the Silverstars as the light is equal if not better. Plus they're only $24/each.
To the first question, HID's are going to cost you a lot of money and I really can't see the justification. If you want brighter fogs I would go aftermarket and as the saying goes "stop trying to polish a turd".

I've had mine on for about 6-7 months and no burn outs for me. Maybe its because i'm not an off-roader, eheh. Anyhow, theres a difference between superwhites and xtreme whites, as xtreme burns at 4150k, while superwhites burn at 3800k....so you'll see color diff. for sure. Setting that aside, i don't doubt the quality of sylvania's silverstar as i heard my good reviews about them, i'm actually gonna try and replace my piaa xtreme heads for the ss.

Do the Silverstar Fogs work fine with the plastic lenses? If not where can you buy the glass lenses at?

The Silverstars will be no different than any other bulb of the same wattage. A 55W Silverstar will be the same gamble as a 55W no-name bulb as far as heat.
