Catera problems

I have a '00 Catera, I have a problem with the headlights. Every once in a while they tend to stay on. I can have my daytime running lights on and the headlights would be on with the DRL. Even if I turned the car off they would stay on. Can anyone help me with this? On top of all of that, the only way a mechanic can help me...they tell me that the lights have to be on when I take it to them to get a diagnostic reading! :banghead: :chair:

My 1999 Catera is also doing this. The running lights wouldn't turn off. Tried removing the fuses; read the owner's manual for information; hit the Internet to research but found no information. Totally ran down my battery. Recharged the battery, and BEHOLD the running lights started working properly. Two days ago, January 16th, again couldn't get the running lights to turn off. This time, I popped the hood, disconnected the battery cables, let it sit overnight, then reconnected the battery cables and had no problem with them. I thought maybe cold weather might be affecting them, as the temps here have dropped to single digits and it was also very cold the first time it happened. ANYBODY OUT THERE HAVE ANY CLUE???

Hey, I finally got that corrected. It was actually the fuse for the daytime running lamps. I went to GM and had a new fuse ordered for about 10-20 dollars and once I changed it, I havent had the problem since. Try that, it should work. I was going through the same thing you were..disconnecting the battery and and everything else...so try buying a new fuse. That should be it.

Really? Great! Thanks for the heads up. Will call the dealer and see if I can get a new fuse. Sure do hate popping the hood on these cold mornings and reconnecting the battery. Appreciate the help!

Hey, just check to see if you it was the fuse and you got that corrected.....
