Car Dies

1993 Diamonte Wagon Ran Great For A Month Then Would Not Accelerate While Driving On Freeway, Pulled To The Side Then The Car Died. Would Not Start, After A While A Tow Truck Came And I Tried To Start, The Car Fired Right Up.

Took Car For Repair Said Ignition Coil Was "not Up To Spec" Had It Replaced. Drove All Day, Then Next Day Same Thing. Took It Back Said They Can Not Find Anything Wrong.

Finally Brought The Car Home. Would Run Great To The Store And Back But Not I'd Say 10 Miles Or More. Then Will Shut Off Again.

The Mechanic Said The Distributer Is Not Sparking. Had That Replaced. Ran About 10 Miles Died Again.

What Else Can It Be? The Auto Repair Center Don't Know.

Have your fuel pump checked. Same things happened to a 1995 Mercury Sable wagon we had. The fuel pump was intermittent and produced the same symptoms you are having.

I would check the ECU.
Had the same prob on my 3000GT and it was the ECU.

for starters check the ECU for any fault codes, that may track the problem down straight away (your mechanic should have the book insturcting how to do it and how to decipher them - if he doesnt then you need a new mechanic.) Also like been said above test the fuel pump to see if gives good pressure. Check the fuel filter (may be clogged with sh1t). I had an identical problem in my Cefiro and we eventually tracked it down to a oxidised contact inside the distributor - but since you already got that checked then must be something else.
Sometimes (just sometimes) pouring in some injector cleaner fixes those sort of problems - but you have to pour in twice the ratio it says on the bottle for it to even do anything (if it says 1 bottle/40 litres - use 1 to 20 litres)

Good luck

Hey,
I would suggest you spend $1 and try QuikMechanic at:
http://www.ineed1.com/quikmechanic.html

I used them before, and they helped alot. It's alot cheaper than going to the shop and they don't fix it, but charge me $68 or more per hour. It's just $1 anyway, so you can't go wrong.
