Starter changing/Location

Hello, My 94 honda civic CX with 162k on it was looked at by a mechanic a couple of days ago, they took off the "Spark Arresters" or something close to that and now the started went, I cannot find the starter to take it off to rebuild or to try to loosen to see if it will still work, can soomeone please help me find the location of the started, and if taking off the "Spark resters" causes the starter to burn out.. thanks :)
