Tranny swap

Hey,
I've a 97 Si with an automatic transmission. This is the first automatic I've ever owned and I can't say that I care for it too much. It handles real well and feels like it'd be a fun car if it weren't for the auto trans. What all is involved in swapping out the auto for a manual? I can do the work myself, so labor costs aren't an issue, but is this a good idea or should I just sell the car and get a manual?
Thanks in advance.

When it comes to tranny swaps, it's all about how much you love the car. If you want to put a 5-spd in, more power to ya, but there's a lot of little things that go into it. And by 'a lot of little things', I mean to the point that you're going to have to get a burnd out civic or sol of the same generation with a good tranny, and rape the hell out of it for parts. Even the pieces that hold the tranny up are different from auto to manu. It'd be easier and cheaper to sell the car and buy something with a stick-shift already in it. But if you love the car, it'd be worth it to do the swap. Sorry I can't help you more...but I'd probably just sell it. :disappoin

well if i am not mistaken the si is a sohc vtec. just run the motor untill it blows or untill you save up enough money and swap out the enitre engine. that is what i did i had a s type auto it sucks but at the same token i felt the potential in the vechicle. so i just ran it untill i saved and the motor was dead and just swapped it. don't sell it you have a unique car. if you did not love your car as much as you do then you would not have posted this thread and just went ahead and sold it. good things comes to those who wait so just wait believe me you will not regret it.

just get a swap. You could just swap trannys, but after finding a new tranny, a clutch, and all the other crap that you need, it'd probably be cheaper to get a b16 swap with the tranny already on it. And besides, You think the SOHC VTEC is fun... wait until you play with the DOHC VTEC. Twice the fun! :D It's great watching the guys at the track be like "I thought you said your sol's engine was stock".. "It is"... "Then how the hell did you just hit a 15.9?!" I can't wait to run again now that it's not so stock. :evillol:

Swap to a GSR tranny. Much better gear rations for a B16:) Thats what i got on mine:) Its much better than stock tranny. And parts are more available. Easy to race prep this tranny. And is literally a bolt up and go deal.
PS im new here i just bought my Del Sol off of a nice lady by the name of Cindy. Shes got good taste in cars and had a nice ride. Thanks Cindy.
