:feedback: Ok, my car is a 98 civic hx, 5-speed, d16y5 sohc vtec-e :( I've already done the cliche things like body kit, coilovers, wheels, exhaust, intake, etc. etc. Now i'm looking for more power.
Problem is, a swap is near impossible (i live in muskeogn, michigan and hondas are rare and there really is no import scene whatsoever) My car stock has 115hp, so now i figure im at 125 tops (i, e). My question is, what can i do to increase my numbers on a somewhat low budget?
I was considering saving up for an EX turbo kit, but im not too sure. I know edelbrock just came out with one. But i've heard you can't turbocharge an HX, is this true? I know the catalytic converter is located inside the stock manifold, but wouldn't it still work to do a turbo or header as long as i buy a manifold with secondary o2 sensor?
Also, would other bolt-ons for an EX work with my car (fuel rail, intake manifold, ignition, throttle body, etc.) I know anythign related with cams is out of the question since my car has a whacked version of vtec with a really weird rocker arm setup. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well if you are worrying about compatability issues you could always just swap a D16Y8 head on. Low budget stuff is good but what is the budget. Low budget for one is not to another. You can do the standard Air intake/Header/Exhaust,which you already did. You could also Port and Polish the head if you know how. It will cost you the price of a head gasket set and your time. And you can always Squeeze it bit Nitrous generally breaks things. The Edelbrock kit is very complete and should fit your motor as long as the TB is side mount(I'm not sure on HX) You can also get a good cam from www.deltacams.com or www.gude.com Just my :2cents:

My budget? Well actually i'm broke right now :( Im guessing i could save up 2 grand in maybe 8 months or so, probably by next summer i could have enough for boost, but i just really dont know what i want to do right now. Nitrous would be a good power adder, but my car is a daily driver and i want it to last. Im not looking for crazy numbers, just something that could whoop mostly anything around here. (which wouldn't be too hard, cuz there aren't cool cars where i live) But yeah, the Throttle Body is a side mount, just like the EX. Not sure, but i think they have identical intake manifolds too. Thanks for the advice csaddict.

you dont need people or supplies around you to get stuff done. save up for a b16 or gsr swap. you dont need too much to do it other then a shop and someone who has some idea what theyre doing. it will be much more reliable then any turbo kit, give you much more power, and wont be as much of a hassle.
