1996 Engine Swap

Greetings all,

I have a question concerning an engine swap in a 1996 Eclipse. He has a 1996Eclipse spyder convertible with a 2.4L 5 speed and the tranny is messing up. We have found a 1996 Eclipse hard top with a 2.0L (blown motor) but with a good 5 speed tranny. Can the 2.4 engine be put in the hardtop using the hardtop tranny without modification. I have confidence in the regulars on this forum and I know nothing about Mitsubishi's, which is now apparent LOL.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks,
Rick

It would require some modification I believe (esp. with the engine and trans mounts).
It be a good amount of work too that would sure require some experience with motor swaps. I don't know a ton about the swap, try researching it.

^ This. If the car has a 4g63 it will be a direct swap. Its it has a 420a there is no chance at making it fit

It would probobly work .But its going to be a lot slower then the orig. Any autoparts store will tell you if it will bolt on

I dont think I would put a lot of trust in the people at auto parts stores to tell me if a swap is possible or not. Most of them cant even find me the right part
