My mother was having issues with her 1998 subaru legacy outback wagon, said she was driving home from the hospital and heard a loud pop, and then nothing else happened. so I went to go check out the car thinking it might be a bad CV joint, and would have to replace one of the front CV shafts. I started up the car, and simply turned the wheels.. come to find a dead spot in the steering, and simply gave it some more juice.. I heard a loud bang, and the car shimmey a bit.. odd.. so I cranked the wheel lock to lock a few times.. it never happened again.. so I took the car out for a little test drive to see if I could re-produce the sound.. I went to turn into a neighbors driveway, and heard a loud bang accompanied by a grinding noise, and shuddering throughout the whole vehicle.. I get out and look the the drivers side tire.. looks fine... the wheel is perfectly straigh and in place as it should be.. the passenger side however is turned into the fender, and back about 4 inches from it's usual spot.. i look down at the lower conrtol arm that is completely rusted through.. so the only part holding the lower control arm in is the rear attactchment, and the upper control arm..
is there a subaru recall on this? I've tried searching, but some up with unrelated info on other models/years. thanks
