Does it matter what engine oil I use?

Well I pretty much narrowed down the consensus among most people is Castrol GTX as the best motor oil. Any thoughts? There are so many good kinds out there now.

My opinion is that any motor oil will work about equally well, from the most expensive to the cheapest. I think the more important factor is how the car is driven. A nice long commute, with little time spent sitting in traffic at stop lights, has got to be better for the oil and the motor, than doing a dozen short trips to the grocery store, bowling alley, the kid's school, etc. where the motor oil doesnt get fully up to temperature each day.
One poster had a doctrine I liked. He changed his oil about every 3 or 4 months. If you drove it only 6 miles a day, that would be 540 - 720 miles, but the oil would have a lot of pollutants in it, from never getting warm enough to 'boil' them out. If you drove 80 miles a day, 5 days a week, that would be 4800 to 6400 miles, but the oil would have gotten fully warmed and stayed cleaner, and so would the interior of the engine.

couldn't agree more. The MORE important aspect of this is how often you change your oil, not which oil you use!
