i have a 1993 mit. eclipse 2.0 non-turbo and im getting intermittant spark on cylinders 2 and 3.i have already changed the computer, coil pack, and power transister module(all used parts from wreacking yard) its always when i first start the car this problem occures. once the car is started it never fails. when it does fail if i try long enough the spark will come back. any ideas???

Have you actually tried new plugs and wires and ensured that the plugs are gapped properly? Sounds like your running out of things to replace. lol... If this doesn't work you could always check at the coil pack to see if you have power going into it correctly. Bad cable somewhere maybe?

what about the camshaft angle senser or the crankshaft position sencer??

That could be it, but it seems silly to spend money on things it might not be. First lets check the coil pack to make sure everything looks ok there or if the problem could be from another sensor like the CPS or CAS...

Check that out and test the coil pack first and we can go from there on testing the other sensors if need be.

Well that will certainly make it more difficult to solve. Let me ask this, when it does give you the problem with not sparking on cylinders 2 and 3, what do you do to get it to run then? I assume this occurs when the car has been sitting off for a while or does this happen while driving?

ok it has never failed once the car is started. only on start-up,and when it does fail,if i keep trying it will eventually it will get spark back and start. what i usually do is unplug the coil pack and then unplug the power transister and plug them back in and it starts. since it has never failed once started, can i assume the wiring is ok?? because you would think driving down the road(hitting bumps )would cause the problem to happen.(open -shorted)

Yes, I would assume the wiring is ok then... That seems like an odd fix though unless it resets sometime in the ECU when that is disconnected? You wouldn't happen to have a spare ECU laying around that you could try, do you? I'm not sure of any certain way to actually test the one you have now though to see if it's bad or not other than swapping it with a known good one... I have seen odd issues like this caused by a bad ECU in the past... It's possible it could be that again...

funny thing it has not failed in over a week now. i actually took it on a road trip no problems(knock on wood) but i still dont trust this car very much since i havent changed anything. when it does fail it usually corrects itself before you can troubleshoot it. maybe sell the car when its running good?? thanks for all your help.i did find a extra ecu haven
t tried yet.

No problem man. I wish we could have figured out what was causing the problem though. Hopefully you don't see anymore of it in the future! If you do though, we can continue on with the troubleshooting. At least you have another ECU you can swap in and try if it happens again.
